The Champions League draw for the 2026/27 season took place in Monaco on August 27, 2026, and all 36 participating teams are now aware of their opponents in the league phase of the upcoming Champions League season. Five La Liga teams were part of this Champions League draw and will compete in Europe’s most prestigious club football competition next season.
Champions League Draw: Spanish Sides Featuring In The 2026/27 Edition
Alongside the Champions League regulars Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, Villarreal and Real Betis are the two Spanish sides that will feature in this edition of the Champions League. This will be the Yellow Submarine’s second consecutive appearance in the competition and their seventh in history. Real Betis have qualified for the Champions League for only the second time in their history, having made their debut in the 2005/06 season.
In this article, we will look at the fixtures of every Spanish club after the Champions League draw and analyse their chances of qualifying for the knockout stages.
FC Barcelona
FC Barcelona enter the Champions League season with a clear mission of bringing the trophy back to Nou Camp. Next season would be Barca’s 29th appearance in the Champions League, and the five-time winners have drawn Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City from pot one alongside Aston Villa, Sporting CP, Feyenoord, Galatasaray, Como 1907, and Sabah FC from the remaining pots.
Barca’s fixtures this season are relatively difficult compared to the last two seasons. Playing two English sides, Manchester City and Aston Villa, at home would not be easy, but given their home strength, Barca are the favourites in these two games. The away trips to Parc des Princes, Rams Park and Bank Respublika Arena in Azerbaijan would be difficult. Still, considering the quality and depth of Hansi Flick’s side, qualifying for the top eight should not be a problem for the Catalan side.
Real Madrid
After going trophyless in the last two seasons, Real Madrid look set to regain their glory under Jose Mourinho. Los Blancos are the side with the most appearances in the Champions League and have also won it more than any other team.
After the Champions League draw, Real Madrid are set to play Inter Milan, PSV Eindhoven, RB Leipzig and LASK at home, whilst the 15-time champions would play away games against Arsenal, Roma, Shakhtar Donetsk and AEK Athens. The away game against Arsenal is by far the most difficult game for Real Madrid, and they should be comfortable at home and must look to secure all 12 points.
Except for the Arsenal game at the Emirates, Real Madrid are favourites to win the remaining three away games as well. If they do get these results, they will have no problem finishing in the top eight.

Atletico de Madrid
Atletico Madrid will feature in the Champions League for the 14th consecutive season. Los Colchoneros have never lifted the trophy but have reached the final on three different occasions. David Villa, a member of Atletico’s board of directors, seemed quite optimistic about the possibility of Rojiblancos lifting this year’s trophy at Metropolitano, as he was called to the stage to organise the Champions League draw.
The Champions League draw has allowed Atletico to host Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Fenerbahce, and Viking at Metropolitano, whereas they will face Liverpool, PSV Eindhoven, Bodo/Glimt, and Stuttgart away from home. The games against Bayern and Liverpool would be the most difficult for Diego Simeone’s side.
Away trips to Stuttgart and Bodo/Glimt would also not be easy, as one slip-up and Atleti could easily find themselves out of the top eight. However, Atleti must fancy their chances, as they are a capable side and should be optimistic about their chances of finishing in the top eight.
Real Betis
Real Betis’ 2026/27 season has started brilliantly as the Andalusian side have won both of their games so far. Betis under Pellegrini have been one of the most consistent sides in Spain in recent years, and as a result they will appear in this edition of the Champions League for only the second time in their history.
After the Champions League draw, Betis now know their route to qualify for the knockout stages, as they will face Arsenal, Porto, Feyenoord and Como at home and play Bayern Munich, Dortmund, Lille and Bratislava on the road. The number of points to qualify for the knockout round in last season’s Champions League was nine, and Betis can expect to win a couple of games at home, and then points away at Lille or Bratislava would make Betis’ case stronger to finish in the top 24 after the Champions League draw.
Villarreal CF
Villarreal, under their new manager, Inigo Perez, will be looking to make a mark in Europe while forgetting the horrors of last season. In the 2024/25 Champions League season, the Yellow Submarine collected only one point and finished 35th in the table.
With the completion of the Champions League draw, Villarreal are now set to host Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, Napoli and Sabah at Estadio de la Cerámica, while they will visit Liverpool, Dortmund, Fenerbahce and Slavia Praha to play away games. The fixtures look difficult for Villarreal, with only the games against Sabah and Slavia Praha seeming most probable for a win. After the Champions League draw, Villarreal’s chances of finishing in the top 24 are very low, and it will take something remarkable from the side to qualify for the next round.
